Sonia Ann Phelps, 81, of Salem, Arkansas, passed away from this life on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Salem, Arkansas. Sonia was born to William Paul Haufschild and Marie (Dulke) Haufschild on May 7, 1942, in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Sonia was united in marriage to Mervin Phelps. Sonia spent her working years as owner/operator of Northside Cafe for eight years and then as Ward Clerk at the Fulton County Hospital for forty years. Sonia loved spending time with her family and friends, reading, and crocheting. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend, and was a member of the Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas.
Sonia leaves to mourn her passing, son, Richard Jones of Salem, Arkansas; grandson, Skylar Jones and wife Shelby of Doniphan, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Canton Jones, Zeke Jones, Birdie Jones, and Rory Jones; brother, Billy Haufschild of Yuma, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband (Mervin Phelps), parents (Bill and Marie Haufschild), brother (Larry Haufschild), and three sisters (Betty Culbertson, Marlene Cummings, and Carrie Alford).
Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Memorials may be made to Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
