Susan Jane Amyx Ault died on October 21, 2022, in Springfield, Missouri. She was born in West Plains, Missouri, on February 18, 1938, to Lile and Edith Gillette Amyx. She attended the Lower Brixey one-room school in Rockbridge, Missouri, until eighth grade and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1956. It was there she met her future husband, John W. Ault, and they were married on November 28, 1958. They had two children, Mark Ault and Jana Ault Phillips (Steve).
Education was a central part of Susan’s life. She earned both a bachelors, and a masters, in education at Southwest Missouri State. She was a retired elementary teacher, spending most of her career teaching in Gainesville, Missouri. After retirement, Susan and John moved to Thailand where they taught in an international school. They made many treasured friends during their teaching careers, here and abroad.
Susan enjoyed traveling and never hesitated to say yes when anyone suggested a trip. She visited numerous states in the U.S., as well as travelling (sometimes more than once) to Canada, Mexico, Central America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Asia.
When she was home, Susan loved nothing more than taking care of her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and gracious hostess. If you spent enough time with Susan, and were fortunate to really get to know her, you would catch a glimpse of her quick wit and wicked sense of humor.
Her grandchildren, Cody Swearingen, Lucas (Chelsey) Phillips, Sydney Phillips Davis (John), and Andrew Ault, were Susan’s pride and joy. She was eagerly awaiting the births of her first two great-grandchildren in the spring. Susan is also survived by her brother, Ray (Genny) Amyx; her beloved and most-helpful son-in-law, Steve Phillips; nieces DeDe Amyx Thiel (Doug) and Alicia Amyx Winrod (Gideon); nephew, Edward Amyx; and several great-nieces and cousins. Predeceasing Susan were her parents, husband, and her brother, Edward.
