Susan Elizabeth “Suzy” Demster passed away in her home in Winona, Missouri, on May 22, 2023. She was born in North Hollywood, California, on November 28, 1962, to parents Earl and Carolyn Thomas.
Suzy graduated high school in Pleasant Hope, Missouri, and married her high school sweetheart, Larry Demster, on December 4, 1981. Together they built a life on their farm in Brighton, Missouri, and raised their daughter, Shannon. Suzy was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Ewing.
Suzy retired from a job she loved at Senior Age in Ash Grove, Missouri. It gave her great joy to cook homemade meals for the senior citizens in the area. She considered them all family and took her responsibility very seriously. She was also an active, long-time member of AmVets Post #178 in Brighton. She took pride in participating in any activity that would benefit veterans. She especially enjoyed helping with their fishing tournaments and cooking for their various fundraisers.
At home, Suzy loved cats, reading books, watching scary movies, and listening to classic rock, especially Aerosmith. She loved cooking for others and did so as often as possible. She also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, deer, and other wildlife that frequented her yard.
Suzy had a habit of taking in “strays,” whether it was a raggedy old dog that showed up at the house or a person who was down on their luck. Her home, and especially her kitchen, were open to everyone.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Timber Jones; granddaughter, Elsie Jones; father and stepmother, Earl and Linda Thomas; and siblings, Danielle, Robert, Glenda, and Wade. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, including Jenna Thomas.
At Suzy’s request, no services will be held, but prayers for the family are appreciated. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Winona, Missouri. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
