Sylvia Maxine Souder, born on November 23, 1953, in Skiatook, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at her home in Wasola, Missouri. She was 71 years old.
Sylvia is lovingly remembered by her husband, Earl Souder. They were married at Souder Church of Christ on April 20, 1972. She was loved dearly by her children, Wayne Souder and his wife Angela, Matt Souder and his wife Misty, and Trisha Souder and her partner Rick. She was preceded in death by both of her parents. Sylvia’s family was the cornerstone of her life, and she made sure everyone felt welcome in her home—whether they were family or not. In her eyes, everyone’s kids were her kids.
A dedicated nurse with a career spanning decades, Sylvia worked tirelessly across various settings but found her true calling as a home health nurse caring for pediatric patients. Her compassion and commitment to others extended far beyond her professional life. She was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and was a steadfast rock for others during hard times.
Sylvia had a zest for life that shone through in her hobbies and passions. She was an avid attendee of country and bluegrass music festivals, loved movies and road trips, and cherished family gatherings filled with laughter and good food. Recently, she discovered a love for quilting and took great joy in crafting baby quilts. Her quick sense of humor and occasional bouts of “wicked intermittent road rage” were legendary among those who had the privilege of riding with her.
Sylvia’s warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her and inspire them to live with the same kindness and humor she shared so freely.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Louise Sneed.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren; Alton and his wife Summer, Hillary, Garrett and his wife Brianna, Dalton, Owen, and great grandchildren Hayden and Kase.
