Vera Austin

Vera Lucille Austin was born June 16, 1924, to the late Everett and Audrey (Young) Hutsell in Rayborn, Missouri, and departed this life February 25, 2021, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, at the age of 96.

Vera graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1941. She then attended Draughon’s Business College in Springfield, Missouri for two years. On June 21, 1944, she married Harold Eugene Austin. From this marriage a son, Michael, and a daughter, Janet, were born. Vera was a devoted wife and mother. She also worked for several years at the Mansfield and Cabool sale barns. She was the bookkeeper for Austin Brothers Construction Company.

Vera was saved at the age of twelve at Friendship Baptist Church. In later years she moved her membership to First Baptist Church of Mountain Grove. She was a member of the choir and also served as a church hostess. Vera had a heart for serving the Lord by serving others.

Besides her parents Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Austin, her brothers, Harlan, Hulen, and J.D. Hutsell, her sisters, Virlee Cardin and Valera Blackwell, brothers-in-law, Audie Cardin and James Blackwell, a sister-in-law, Jeanette Hutsell, and three nephews, Greg Cardin, Danny Cardin, and Kyle Hutsell.

She is survived by her son, Mike Austin (Kathy) of Mountain Grove, Missouri, her daughter, Janet Parsons of Springfield, Missouri, two grandchildren, Jeanna Edwards (Craig), of Springfield, Missouri, Denna Harvill (Heather Gettys) of St. Louis, Missouri, two great-grandchildren, Olivia Edwards and Mason Gettys, longtime closest friend, Anna Stigall and her family, along with her sisters-in-law, Edwina Hutsell and Wilma Hutsell, as well as many other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
