Vernice Herd

Vernice (Jones) Herd, 91, of Thornfield, MO passed away March 11, 2022 at the Gainesville Healthcare Center. She was born May 8, 1930 at Foil, MO, the oldest of two children born to Robert “Bob” and Lois (Lawson) Jones.

On February 19, 1948 Vernice became the bride of Buddy Herd and to this union one son was born, Gary Herd. Vernice was the 4th generation of her family to live in Ozark County. Vernice worked at many different jobs including Mar-Bax shirt factory, a cook and bus driver at Thornfield school, and at Spaldings. Most of her work, however, was spent self-employed as a doll maker for about 25 years for Silver Dollar City, then later for Little House at Mansfield, MO.

Vernice was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Wayne Jones; and her husband Buddy Herd.

She is survived by one son Gary Herd and wife Carol of Thornfield, MO; one granddaughter Gina Herd and partner Ron Harden of Tecumseh, MO; and one great granddaughter Sarah Hawkins of Tecumseh, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2022 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with Doyle Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Thornfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Thornfield Cemetery fund.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
