Harold was born in Ozark County, and when he was two years old his family moved to Douglas County. He attended Ava High School.

On May 7, 1959, Harold and Kay Pool were united in marriage by the Rev. Oscar Cunningham in Ava, MO. Together they were blessed with three children. They just had their 65th wedding anniversary.

Harold was a dairy farmer for over 40 years. He enjoyed every day with those old cows—unless someone asked him to go fishing. “Kay, can you milk?”, was heard occasionally if the fish were biting (or even if they weren’t). Glen, his father-in-law, was his special fishing buddy.

He really enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to bluegrass music. He also loved shooting pool with his many friends at the pool hall, and when they stopped playing pool, he enjoyed playing cards. He also loved playing pitch with his kids and grandkids. If he was winning, that game was the “Douglas County Championship”. In his later years, the highlight of his day was when old friends stopped by to spend time with him.  He loved being with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, and in return he was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. His greatest comfort in his last few years was his best little pal, Trixie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Barbara Cooper, and an infant brother, Gary Harlin.

Harold is survived by his wife, Kay; his children and their spouses, Harlin and Shirley Hutchison, Kim and Danny Clements, and Kristy and Jeff Tackett; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Steven, Dylan, Morgan, J.L., Seth, Alic, and Amy; six great grandchildren; a sister, Lucille DeBerry; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Harold will be Monday, July 1, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt. Tabor Church, Rt. 3, West Hwy. 76, Ava, MO. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:30 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Officiating will be Brother Max Stephens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Rt. 4, Box 454, Ava, MO 65608.
