With the exception of a few defensive gems from Tommy Edman and Paul Goldschmidt nothing went right for the Cardinals during a 14-0 loss to the Houston Astros at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals managed just four hits in the losing effort and surrendered 18 base knocks. The Cardinals allowed six runs in the second inning and were uncompetitive the rest of the way. Adam Wainwright was charged with his third loss after giving up six runs in an inning-and-two-thirds. The Cardinals remain in last place in the NL Central at 33-and-47. Matthew Liberatore takes the mound when St. Louis hosts the Yankees tonight.
Nolan Arenado was voted a starter for the National League in the All-Star game. After that slow start in April where he hit just .239 with two homers, Arenado hit .302 the month of June and 14 homers over his last 49 games. Arenado is nursing a sore back and was the DH last night.
