The Willow Springs Bears traveled to Houston to face the Seymour Tigers in the first round of the district tournament. This is the second meeting this season between these teams, with Seymour taking the first game.
Seymour got out to a quick start and led 5-0 early. The Bears were able to respond and take an 8-7 lead, midway through the quarter. The teams traded three point baskets on multiple trips down the court. The Bears ended the first quarter on a 8-0 run and led 16-10 at the end of the quarter.
The scoring run for the Bears continued in the second quarter. The Bears were able to go on a 14-0 run before Seymour was able to respond. The Tigers fought back and got within seven points. That would be as close as the Tigers would get before halftime. The Bears were able to gain a 17 point lead going into the locker room. Willow Springs led 36-19 at the half.
Seymour began the third quarter with a scoring run of their own, gong on a 9-0. Willow Springs stopped the run with a three point basket. This quarter had a back and forth scoring tempo for a short time. The Tigers were able to claw their way back into the game due to their defensive pressure. Willow Springs held a small lead at the end of the quarter, 48-42.
During the fourth quarter, the Bears were able to adjust and built a 13 point lead again. Once the advantage was back to 13, the Tigers were not able to battle back. The Bears won 63-52. Willow Springs will face the Thayer Bobcats on Thursday, at 6:00 pm, in the semi-final round of the district tournament.
