Columbia, Mo. – University of Missouri junior wide receiver Luther Burden III was voted a first-team preseason All-Southeastern Conference selection by the media assembled in Dallas this week for SEC Media Days. Burden, a second-team All-American last fall after his breakout sophomore season, was the Tigers’ lone player to appear on the media’s preseason All-SEC team.
Burden is coming off one of the most prolific seasons by a Mizzou offensive player in program history in 2023, leading the Tigers in receptions (86), receiving yards (1,212) and TD receptions (nine). A first-team All-SEC choice last fall, the St. Louis native finished the season second in the SEC and ninth in the nation in receiving yards and third in the conference in receptions. His 1,212 receiving yards ranks third on the program’s single-season receiving chart, while his 83 receptions rank fourth in program history. Burden, just the eighth 1,000-yard receiver in Mizzou history, was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award.
The media picked Mizzou to finish sixth in the expanded 16-team, division-less SEC. Georgia was the favorite to win the conference with 165 of the 213 first-place votes. SEC newcomer Texas was picked to finish second, ahead of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana State and Mizzou.
Here is the media’s predicted order of finish based on poll points earned through the voting system. A first-place vote is worth 16 points, second-place 15 points, etc. This is the first time the SEC will not feature two divisions since 1991.
