The Chicago Bears say they’re getting closer to choosing a site for a new stadium, and right now their entire focus is on northwest Indiana.
The team has completed its review of the Lost Marsh site in Hammond and is now studying a second location, Wolf Lake Terminal. The current plan is to build the stadium at Lost Marsh and use Wolf Lake Terminal for restaurants, hotels, shops, housing, and other entertainment, creating one connected Bears development. The proposed stadium site is just 14 miles from Soldier Field.
Team President Kevin Warren said, “Our sole focus at this point in time is working on a world-class stadium and mixed-use development in Hammond, Indiana.”
If the move happens, it would be the Bears’ first home outside Illinois, but Chairman George McCaskey says, “We will be the Chicago Bears whether we’re in Arlington or whether we’re in Hammond.”
The Bears’ lease at Soldier Field runs through 2033, but the team can leave early by paying a fee.
