Comeback Not Quite Enough as Mizzou Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 16/15 Arkansas

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women’s Basketball (6-7, 2-6 SEC) dropped another extremely close game to a tough opponent, falling 85-80 to No. 16/15 Arkansas (14-6, 4-5 SEC) on Thursday night at Mizzou Arena. Mizzou trailed by as much as 18 in the third quarter but fought back to take a lead late in the fourth quarter before ultimately falling by five to the ranked Razorbacks.

Mizzou had six players score in double figures, including a team-high 19 points from sophomore guard Lauren Hansen (Long Island, N.Y.), who played her best game as a Tiger. Sophomore guard Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) continued her tear on the glass as she grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with 13 points to record her fifth consecutive double-double.

Turning Point

In just over 10 minutes of game time between the middle of the third quarter and middle of the fourth quarter, Mizzou went on 33-14 run to erase an 18-point deficit and grab a lead at 76-75 with 2:22 left. The resilient Razorbacks refused to go away however as All-American Chelsea Dungee scored four of her game-high 27 points right after Mizzou took the lead, followed by a three from Destiny Slocum to put the lead back to four.

Top Tigers

  • Hansen led the Tigers in scoring with a season-high 19 points while sinking four three-pointers and adding three assists.
  • Blackwell continued her remarkable stretch of rebounding, posting a game-high 12 rebounds while adding 13 points for her fifth consecutive double-double and ninth of the season.
  • Redshirt senior guard Shug Dickson (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 11 points and had a team-high seven assists in the game.

Notes

  • Mizzou shot 48.4 percent from the field, the ninth time in 13 games this season the Tigers have shot 40 percent or better from the field.
  • Mizzou outrebounded the Razorbacks, 40-24, the eighth time in 13 games it has outrebounded its opponent.
  • Hansen player her best game as a Tiger, posting season-highs in points (19), field goals (seven), three-pointers (four), rebounds (four), assists (three) and minutes (29).
  • With 13 points, Blackwell continued her stretch of scoring in double figures, doing so for the 13th time this season and for the 28th consecutive game dating back to Jan. 12, 2020.
  • Blackwell attacked the glass once again, as she grabbed 12 rebounds to record her fifth consecutive double-double, the ninth of her season and the 16th of her career.
  • Dickson matched a career-high with seven assists, matching her total from Jan. 24 vs. Texas A&M.
  • The Tiger senior also had 11 points to record her sixth game in double figures this season and the 32nd time in her career.
  • Redshirt junior LaDazhia Williams (Bradenton, Fla.) scored 10 points to record her 12th game in double figures this season.
  • With 12 points, sophomore forward Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) recorded her ninth game of the season and the 29th of her career in double figures.
  • Redshirt senior Shannon Dufficy (Melbourne, Australia) scored a season-high 12 points, her second game this season and 50th career game in double figures.
