COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball alum Kameron Misner became the latest Tiger to earn a big league promotion Friday when the Tampa Bay Rays added the outfielder to their 26-man active Major League roster.
Misner becomes the first former Tiger to earn an MLB call up since September 5, 2022, when Josh Lester made his big league debut with Detroit.
A native of Poplar Bluff, Misner hit .246 with 66 home runs and 117 stolen bases over his five-year minor league career, including 15 round-trippers and 27 steals in 94 games for Class AAA Durham this season. Over the past three seasons, the former 35th overall pick (Miami) in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft has totaled a combined 290 hits, while belting 52 homers and swiping 80 bags at the Double-A and Triple-A levels.
Misner starred for the Tigers over a three-year period spanning 2017-19, finishing his career as Mizzou’s fifth-leading base-stealer (50). He became only the Tigers’ second-ever position player to be selected in the first round of the MLB Draft, joining Steve Patchin in 1971 after leading MU to three consecutive 30-win seasons. He earned Freshman All-America honors in 2017, before hitting .360 as a sophomore and doing it all during a junior campaign in 2019 that saw the Golden Spikes Award candidate hit 10 homers and steal 29 bases for a 34-22 Tigers squad that narrowly missed advancing to postseason play.
Misner was activated by the Rays on Friday and is expected to join the club for its weekend series in Houston.
