The Royals dropped their series opener in Cleveland. Kansas City lost to the Guardians 8-5 in the first outing of a three-game set at Progressive Field. Bobby Witt Jr. led the way at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs, but his throwing error in the seventh inning led to three Guardian runs on one play. That error came in the seventh inning and broke 5-5 tie.
Hunter Renfroe hit his fifth homer of the year on a solo shot in the third inning. Sam Long was tagged with his first loss after he allowed two unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning of relief. The Royals have lost seven of nine and sit second in the AL Central at 36-and-26, five games behind Cleveland. Game two tonight with Brady Singer starting.
