The Liberty Lady Eagles faced the Willow Springs Lady Bears on Monday night, January 13th, 2025. Lady Eagles had a rough start but were able to take another win by a Final Score of 43-39.
1st Quarter: Lady Eagles control the tip as Ella Phipps tries for a three but falls short. They try for several more three pointers but all continue to fall short as there is no score with under 6:19 to go. First bucket good by Hadley Chowning. Rebound Lady Bears but stolen back by Chowning who is fouled. Chowning works back out of the zone, stolen by the Lady Bears and a good three pointer for Alexis Sigman as they now lead by one. Another three for bears as 3-2 now becomes 6-2, this one by Chloe Jones. Ball stays with the Lady Bears who once again foul the Lady Eagles as Alexis Sigman goes to the line. Sigman makes 1-2 bringing the Lady Bear lead at five points. Shot up and good as Lady Eagles score on an easy layup, this is a two pointer by Phipps as they trail by two. Bears continue to get more attempts to capitalize on the lead at the free-throw line with two more by Chloe Jones. Another jumper by Sigman as now the Score is 10-5.
2nd Quarter: Lady Eagles looks to double team it and finally a bucket by Jaylee Tharp. Rebound and Delany Ellett with a nice drive. Lady Bears try to tip it after a steal but possession given back to Lady Eagles. Taken back by Lady Bears and a jumper by sigman, Rebound Chowning who scores as it is now a one point ballgame. Jones goes back to the line on another foul and makes one free throw bringing it back to a two point game. Ellet passes to Chowning and a good three. Rebound Lady Bears and a three by Chloe Jones. Jones gets a look to tie up the game in the final thirty seconds at the line as Chowning has since scored on a three. Chloe Jones tries for the last shot but ball goes out of bounds.
HALFTIME- Lady Eagles: 21/ Lady Bears: 19
3rd Quarter: Lady Eagles take off on a nice 5-0 run at the start as Bears get it to start. Stolen by Hadley Chowing who puts it up for two. Rebound by Bears but stolen back by Ella Phipps who scores on a jumper. Bears try for it again but another three and a long three by Addyson Rutledge as it is now a ten point ballgame. Bears run with it a bit and are able to cut to lead to five with two good buckets by Chloe Jones. Score 29-24, with under four minutes to go. Jones continues to play very much, the same game she played in the first half. She continues to be able to cut into the lead at the free throw line. She makes one free throw and rebound Hadley Chowning who puts the ball up and in. Team foul on Liberty and now Sigman will go to the line who makes one. Rebound by Jaylee Tharp for Lady Eagles, she looks and tries for an in tries to score. Stolen back by Bears who keep it for the end as Eagles continue to hold the lead, 32-25.
4th Quarter: Jones goes to the line after running it down and fouling, she shoots two good free throws. Rebound Eagles and a nice three pointer by Hadley Chowning. Rebound Sigman for the Lady Bears and shoots on a high jumper as the Lady Eagle lead is five. Lady Eagles get it back but turn it over and down to Sophia Jackson who scores on two for the Lady Bears. Rebound by Tharp, briefly taken back by Lady Bears but stolen back by Ella Phipps. Teams continue to tussle with it for about a minute. A jumper and a foul by Phipps and Chloe Jones shoots two for the Bears. 1:39 to go and the Lady Bears are flirting with the idea of tying up the ballgame. And with 30 seconds, Hadley Chowning is sent back to the line after another foul on the Lady Bears. Bears will get one more attempt at the line with 13.8 seconds to go as Chloe Jones makes it a two point game. The rest of the game is pretty much played from the free throw line. Rebound Lady Bears and they step over the line and Chowning will go back to the line for the Lady Eagles. Hadley makes one at the line with 7.3 to go in the game. Another round of free throws for Jones and Chowning to wind down the clock.
Lady Eagles win it by four, Final Score: 43-39
