Liberty breaks through Eminence Redwing defense in impressive, twenty point game

The Liberty Eagles headed back on the road this past Tuesday night, January 21st 2025 to Eminence to face the 8-4 Redwings. Eagles had a great night particularly on rebounds and three point shooting, managing to win the game by a Score of 64-46.

Summary: 

1st Quarter: Tip controlled by Liberty as Eminence will play a 1-3-1 defense. First bucket by post guard, Draydon Wells for the Liberty Eagles, but Eminence answers back with a three by Morgan Ipock. Morgan and Draydon seem to get the majority of points and rebounds in the first minute or so of the game. Brayden Mays is able to give the Eagles a 13-7 with two three pointers as the Redwings are trying to build back in. Morgan Ipock manages to score on another two pointer for Eminence & Draydon Wells answers back with another two more for Liberty. Parker Tune scores three more and Eagles will hang onto it on the rebound. Eagles take a few more trips down the timeline and another two pointer by Gavin Reese. Quarter ends with score, 21-11

2nd Quarter: Eminence Redwings increasing the defensive pressure as a spin move and bucket by Drew Foster. A blocking foul is called on the rebound and Gavin Reese gets to shoot two more for the Liberty Eagles as they hold on a ten point lead. With under 6:00 to go, Redwings get a steal and look to get a shot. Stolen by Brian Thompson who shoots and scores for the Eagles. Rebound by the Redwings and a foul call sends Drew Foster to the line for two free throws as they increase to trail by eight points, 30-23. Redwings are able to maintain enough pressure to cut the lead to one point. 

HALFTIME- Liberty Eagles: 30/ Eminence Redwings: 29

3rd Quarter: Redwings have the ball to start the second half, but a foul call and Parker Tune shoots three free throws and is able to put the Eagles back up by five. Another rebound by Gavin Reese who passes it to Alex Tune for another three pointer. Ipock gets it back for the Redwings and scores and takes another trip to the free throw line, shooting two. Ball gets over to Drew Foster for the Redwings and scores on another two pointer but is rebounded by the Liberty Eagles. Draydon Wells shoots and scores on a two pointer.  Redwings get the ball on the rebound, a foul sends Eddie Rich to the line and continues to ground both teams at a ten point ballgame. With 3:30 to go in the game has narrowed down to a thirteen point lead, 33-46. Drew Foster is looking to make it into scoring double digits and making his tenth point on the night as he shoots two more. Brayden Mays with and another three pointer after yet another rebound, at least his fifth during the second quarter of play. Teams hold at ten points at the end of the Quarter with Liberty continuing to lead 49-39. 

4th Quarter: The Liberty lead is cut to six as both Foster and Eddie Rich score for the Redwings. Alex Tune scores his eight point of the night as he goes to the line and Gavin Reese makes another rebound as the Eagles continue to have a great night making rebounds. And another three pointer brings Alex to eleven on the night with the score, 56-41. Drew Foster gets it back for the redwings but stolen back by Gavin Reese. Eagles hold onto it and nearly lose it, forgetting to keep and eye on the Eminence defenders. Surprisingly, Eminence has not went full court. Parker Tune tries to shoot a two handed layup and misses, instead shoots two free throws. Eagles hold onto it on rebound, do a few passes. They get it down to Cooper Holden who shoots and scores on a two pointer. Rebound by Drew Foster for the Eminence Redwings who tries for a two and misses, goes to the line for two free throws. Alex Tune gets the ball on the rebound and shoots yet another three, his fourth three pointer in the second half. Liberty gets up far enough to empty their bench and Liberty will improve to 9-5 on the season as they will win the game by a score of 64-46.

After the Game; Gary Lee got a chance to talk with Eagle Basketball head coach, Jason Harrill. Among other things, the two discussed Brayden Mays’ record night in scoring as well as the lulled Second Quarter and locker room discussions which seemed to motivate the Eagles second half of play.
