The Liberty-Mtn View Eagle Basketball team took on the Summersville Wildcats on Tuesday night December 3rd, 2024. This was the first home game of the season for the team after their 63-30 victory this past Saturday against Twin Rivers @ The Van Buren Current River Tournament. Eagles move up to 2-0 as they beat Summersville by a score of 59-21.
1st Quarter: Tip controlled by Liberty and controlled by Alex Tune. Ball goes out of bounds and to the Summersville Wildcats. Liberty tries to control Summersville in a match-up zone. First points scored by Kasen Gasten for the Wildcats, taking a 5-0 lead. This lead quickly switches to 6-2 as Liberty gets two buckets. As Liberty makes it up to a 7-6 lead after some luck at the throw line and some buckets by Alex Tune and Gavin Reese. After the first time-out, Reese shoots a good two from the far end. To top it, a good three ball which brings the lead to 12-6. Summersville has made at least seven turnovers within the first four minutes of the quarter.
2nd Quarter: Alex Tune with another dunk for the Eagles scoring three more points. Reese and Tune try to play a pass but it is blocked. Reese also has made at least seven rebounds within the first half. Both Reese and Tune continue to make ample trips to the throw line as by this point, Summersville has four team fouls. Gasten continues to lead Summersville in scoring as he adds to the five he has scored on the night. A series of passes between Gasten & Nathan Berry for the Wildcats before the ball goes loose. Liberty keeps it but Alex Tune tries a shot and rebounded Summersville. However, Summersville still did not score in the last half. A good jumper by Tune brings the Eagles to lead 25-8 at the Half.
3rd Quarter: Another basket by Tune to start things off in the second half for Liberty. Gavin Reese makes another dunk as well as the Liberty lead is now 30-8. Gasten scores a two and after a time out tries to go for a three for the Wildcats but doesn’t make it. Summersville makes their first turnover of the half and another steal by Parker Tune for Liberty. Reese shoots two at the line and makes 2-2. Paxton Hunter for the Wildcats is starting to make a few more blocks for the Eagles. Liberty increases their press and runs some offense, Tune makes a nice one-handed layup and adds to his ten points on the night. Reed Fifer shoots the first three of the night as even their press has increased. But Liberty answers back and Reese shoots a Three ball. With 1:27 to go in the Quarter, Score is 39-14. Tune makes another tunk, rebound fought for and Liberty. Summersville tries another pass play but time runs out.
4th Quarter: Some more layups by Reese and Alex Tune in the first two minutes of the Quarter. Summersville trying to get a hold of it and Berry scores on a layup. Liberty continuing to have great luck with their press. Many of the Liberty putbacks continue to be recovered by Landon Hines. Shot up and good by Brayden Mays as the Liberty Lead is 55-18 to go, 3:22 to go in the Half. Anthony Tuttle shoots a three for Summersville, rebound Alex Tune who blocks it and gets a trip to the throw line. Freshman Cooper Holden scores the last two point for the Eagles.
