The Lions spoiled the Chiefs’ banner celebration at Arrowhead Stadium in the NFL season opener. Kansas City lost to Detroit 21-20 at Arrowhead Stadium. The KC defense let up a game-winning eight-yard TD run by Detroit running back David Montgomery with just over seven minutes remaining. Patrick Mahomes threw for 226 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while adding 45 yards on the ground. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney had three drops, one of which led to a Lions’ pick-six.
The star quarterback failed to connect with his receivers late in the game as the KC offense stalled out with two minutes left to play. The Chiefs start the year 0-and-1. They will return to action next Sunday afternoon on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
