COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (8-17, 1-6 SEC) dropped the opening game of its series against Texas A&M (19-9, 3-4 SEC) by a 16-2 score on Thursday at Taylor Stadium.
Texas A&M jumped to a 6-0 lead by scoring a pair of runs in each of the first three innings. A second-inning error made two of the markers unearned. The Aggies hung nine runs on the board in the sixth before freshman Holden Phelps delivered 3.1 scoreless innings to close the game for Mizzou.
Senior Mark Vierling broke up the shutout bid in the eighth with his RBI double to left center. Fifth-year Andrew Keefer followed with an RBI single.
Sophomore Spencer Miles (1-5) took the loss in the start for Mizzou. Dustin Saenz (5-2) picked up the win for the Aggies with seven scoreless innings.
