COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball standout Trevor Austin has agreed to terms on a free agent professional contract with Houston, the Astros organization announced Wednesday.
Austin, a four-year letterwinner as an infielder and outfielder for Mizzou, capped his collegiate career with a strong offensive campaign that saw the Jefferson City, Missouri product lead the Tigers in nearly every major offensive category. He belted a career-high 13 home runs while also pacing MU in hits (57), runs scored (51), doubles (11), walks (27), hit by pitch (20), total bases (109), hitting (.297), slugging (.568) and on-base percentage (.433).
For his career, Austin hit 29 homers and racked up 165 hits in 171 games played, hitting .295 overall. He ranks third on Mizzou’s all-time hit-by-pitch chart (49) and started 148 of Mizzou’s 150 total games over his final three seasons as a Tiger.
Austin becomes the fourth 2024 Tiger to earn an opportunity to pursue a career in professional baseball, joining Ryan Magdic (Oakland), Carter Rustad (Baltimore) and Bryce Mayer (Houston), who were selected in last week’s Major League Baseball Draft.
