Mizzou Track & Field Travels to Auburn for War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. — Mizzou Track and Field is set to travel to Auburn, Alabama for the War Eagle Invitational, beginning on Friday, April 16 and concluding on Saturday. The Tigers are back on the road after hosting the Tom Botts Invitational last weekend. On the shortened weekend, due to rain, Mizzou captured five event wins. 

At the Invitational, Mizzou is set to compete against 11 other teams, including Auburn, Alabama State, Cincinnati, Memphis, Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee, Samford, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Troy and UAB. Live results will be available on Delta Timing.

The War Eagle Invitational is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. CT on Friday afternoon, beginning with the men’s hammer throw. The women’s hammer throw will follow, along with the long jump and javelin. At 7:00 p.m. CT, distance track events will kick off with the 1500m races. Mizzou will close out the day with the 5000m.

On Saturday, the action will begin at 11:30 a.m. CT with the men’s high jump and women’s triple jump. The 4x100m relays and other sprint events will follow, beginning at noon CT. The Tigers then close out the meet in the 4x400m relays. 

Redshirt sophomore Sydney Oberdiek (Platte City, Mo.) is set to compete in the women’s hammer throw. At the Tom Botts Invitational, Oberdiek moved up to seventh in program history with a throw of 58.27m (191-2). 

In the men’s long jump, redshirt junior Ja’Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) will make his second jump of the outdoor season. At the Texas Relays, Ward recorded a mark of 7.71m (25-3.5), which currently ranks 21st nationally. 

Freshman Skylar Ciccolini (Lewistown, Pa.) will compete in the women’s javelin throw. In her debut javelin throw for Mizzou earlier in the season, Ciccolini moved up to second in program history with a throw of 53.39m (175-2). Her mark also ranks eighth in the nation. 

Redshirt junior Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) is set to make her season debut in the 3000m steeplechase. Menghini, who is currently the school record holder in the event, placed third at the 2019 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a personal best time of 10:07.76.

In the 5000m, redshirt senior Thomas George (Gloucester, U.K.) will also make his season debut. George currently ranks eighth all-time in program history in the event. George holds the school record in the indoor 3000m, 5000m and outdoor 10,000m. 

On day two, redshirt sophomore Chris Conrad (O’Fallon, Ill.) is set to compete in the 800m. Conrad last ran the 800m at the Raleigh Relays, where he placed third with a time of 1:48.19, a new personal best in his first outdoor race since 2018. 

After the War Eagle Invitational, Mizzou will travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the annual Drake Relays on April 23-24. The Tigers then wrap up the regular season with the Kansas Invitational before beginning postseason competition with the SEC Outdoor Championships.
