Mizzou Women’s Basketball Drops Close Contest to No. 20/21 Tennessee

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women’s Basketball had a lead after three quarters, but ending up falling, 78-73, to No. 20/21 Tennessee on Thursday evening at Mizzou Arena. The loss was Mizzou’s sixth of the SEC season by 10 points or less, with five coming to ranked opponents.

Mizzou had four players score in double figures, led by sophomore guard Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) and redshirt junior guard Haley Troup (Gadsden, Ala.) with 16 points each.

Turning Point

Mizzou led 60-55 after three quarters but was outscored 23-13 in the game’s 10 minutes. Tennessee’s Rennia Davis scored 20 of the Lady Volunteers 23 points in fourth quarter, leading the charge in Tennessee’s comeback.

Top Tigers

  • Blackwell paced the Tigers with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field while adding a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Troup scored 16 points, 10 of which came in the first quarter with two rebounds and two assists.
  • Redshirt senior Shannon Dufficy (Melbourne, Australia) filled the stat sheet with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks.

  • As a team, Mizzou shot 45.9 percent from the field (28-of-61), the 12th time this season the Tigers have shot 40 percent or better.
  • The Tigers shot 40.0 percent (12-of-30) from three, the third consecutive and eighth time shooting 40 percent or better from deep.
  • Blackwell led the Tigers in scoring for the fifth time this season with 16 points, her 16th game this season in double figures and the seventh game this season with 15 or more points.
  • Troup matched her career high with 16 points, equaling the mark she set at Tennessee on Jan. 6, 2019. It marked the sixth time this season and the 13th time in her career she has scored in double figures.
  • Dufficy scored in double figures for the fourth time this season and the 52nd time in her career with 10 points.
  • The Tiger senior set a career-high in blocks with three and season-highs in assists (four) and steals (four).
  • Redshirt senior Shug Dickson (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 10 points in the game, her 10th game in double figures this season and the 36th of her career.
