Mizzou Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 8 Texas A&M, 70-66

COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the second game in-a-row, Mizzou Women’s Basketball (5-5, 1-4 SEC) nearly overcame a double-digit first half deficit as the Tigers fell, 70-66, to No. 8 Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.

Mizzou was led by redshirt junior forward LaDazhia Williams (Bradenton, Fla.), who scored a career-high 20 points while sophomore guard Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.

Turning Point

The Aggies outscored the Tigers 25-12 in the second quarter to gain control of the game and take an eight-point lead into halftime at 38-30. Mizzou worked its way back into the game in the second half, outscoring the Aggies 36-32 in the game’s final 20 minutes, but the Tigers couldn’t quite get over the hump, ultimately falling by four to the 8th-ranked Aggies.

  • Williams set a new career high with 20 points on 9-of-12 field goal attempts while adding three rebounds.
  • Blackwell posted her second consecutive double-double and sixth overall of the season with 11 points and 16 rebounds.
  • Redshirt junior guard Haley Troup (Gadsden, Ala.) scored 10 points and had a team-high four assists.

Notes

  • As a team, Mizzou shot 53.8 percent from the field (28-of-52), its seventh game shooting above 50 percent from the field this season.
  • Mizzou also shot 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from deep, its fourth game this season shooting 40 percent or better from the three-point line.
  • Williams set a new career-high with 20 points in the game, surpassing her previous high of 18 from Mizzou’s season-opening win over North Alabama (Nov. 27).
  • The Tiger junior also set a new career-high in field goals made with nine, as she shot a highly efficient 9-of-12 from the field.
  • With 11 points and 16 rebounds, Blackwell recorded her second consecutive double-double, her sixth of the season and the 13th of her career.
  • Blackwell’s 16 rebounds mark a new career-high and are the most by a Tiger since Cierra Porter grabbed 18 against Saint Louis on Dec. 8, 2017.
  • With 10 points, Troup scored in double figures for the third time this season and the 10th time in her career.
  • Troup also recorded a team-high four assists, marking the fifth time this season and the 13th time in her career she has had 3+ assists.
