Brennaman, who calls Reds games for FOX Sports Ohio as well as some national games for FOX Sports, appeared to be unaware that the broadcast of a Reds-Royals game in Kansas City had returned from commercial break when he was heard referring to someplace as “the fag capital of the world.”
The incident took place during the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader.
The 56-year-old play-by-play announcer remained on the air for the start of the second game of the twin bill.
Brennaman later apologized during the third inning of the second game, saying he was “deeply ashamed” of his remarks, and acknowledged that his actions could lead to his dismissal, reportedly saying “I don’t know if I’m putting on this headset again.”
The Cincinnati Reds announced he’s been suspended indefinitely. They were “devastated by the horrific, homophobic remark.”
The team said it would address the broadcast booth in the coming days
