- LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Conference announced its 2020-21 men’s basketball Most-Improved Team on Wednesday with Missouri State guard Isiaih Mosley (So., Columbia, Mo.) landing a spot on the team and garnering the league’s Most-Improved Team captain honor for the season.
Named as an All-MVC first-team selection on Tuesday, along with teammate Gaige Prim, Mosley became the first MSU player to lead the MVC in scoring after he posted 20.0 points per game this season. He also leads the conference in minutes played (33.7), and ranks second in free throw percentage (.847), seventh in assists (3.3) and 10th in rebounds (6.1). A three-time MVC Player of the Week this season, Mosley scored in double figures 19 times, including 13 games of 20 points or more and 12 times leading the Bears in scoring.
Last year, Mosley averaged 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 32 appearances (10 starts) with a .472 field goal percentage.
He is the first Missouri State player to land on the MVC Most-Improved Team since Chris Kendrix in 2016 and just the 10th Bear ever to do so.
The Most-Improved Team and All-Bench Team (also announced Wednesday) are selected by the league’s newspaper writers.
Joining Mosley on this year’s MVC Most-Improved Team are: Loyola’s Aher Uguak, Drake’s Joseph Yesufu, Evansville’s Shamar Givance, and Valparaiso’s Ben Krikke.
Missouri State (16-6) is the No. 3 seed for this weekend’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The Bears will take on sixth-seeded Valparaiso on Friday evening at 8 p.m., with the winner advancing to a 3 p.m. semifinal on Saturday. The MVC Championship game will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.
