Pittsburgh Undefeated No More…
The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t going undefeated. The Washington Football Team, which was 4-7 coming in, pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the NFL season on Monday, coming from behind to knock off Pittsburgh 23-17.
The Steelers were up 14-0 seconds before halftime, but they lost when up by at least 14 points for only the second time since 2004. Since drafting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in 2004, the Steelers are 109-2-1 when leading by 14 points at any point, including playoff games.
Tied at 17 with less than five minutes remaining, the Steelers had a chance to score. But with starting kicker Chris Boswell out with a hip injury, the Steelers elected to go for it on fourth-and-1 from the Washington 28.
Roethlisberger targeted rookie Anthony McFarland on a wheel route, but the running back, who has just five catches, couldn’t haul it in on a double move, and the Steelers turned over the ball on downs for the second time.
It was a great win for Washington, especially quarterback Alex Smith and his phenomenal comeback story.
The Steelers are now 11-1 and tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the top record in the AFC.
Allen throws for 4 TDs, Bills beat 49ers 34-24 in Arizona
Josh Allen threw for 375 yards and tied a career high with four touchdown passes as the Buffalo Bills stayed in sole possession of first place in the AFC East with an impressive 34-24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Buffalo (9-3) moved a step closer to winning its division for the first time since 1995 thanks to a nearly flawless performance from Allen. The 24-year-old completed 32 of 40 passes with no interceptions.
He threw touchdown passes to Cole Beasley, Dawson Knox, Isaiah McKenzie and Gabriel Davis as the Bills built a 17-7 halftime lead and controlled the majority of the second half.
The Bills are one game ahead of the Miami Dolphins with four games left for both teams.
San Francisco (5-7) lost in its first game at its adopted home in Arizona. The 49ers will be based in Glendale for at least the next three weeks after Santa Clara County issued strict new coronavirus protocols that forced the team to find a temporary new home.
Nick Mullens finished 26-of-39 passing for 316 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. The 49ers weren’t bad on offense, but couldn’t keep pace with Allen and the Bills.
