No. 15/8 Tigers Open Home Slate

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 15/8 University of Missouri softball (12-4) will open the 2022 home slate on Friday against St. Thomas (2-8) at 4 p.m. at Mizzou Softball Stadium as a part of the Mizzou Tournament. The Tigers will host the Tommies and Bradley (7-7) over the weekend.

The Tigers return home after a 4-1 weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California. Mizzou downed two Top 10 opponents in No. 9 Oregon and No. 5 Washington.

SEC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Casidy Chaumont was named SEC Co-Player of the Week after batting .615 with a double and two home runs at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. She smacked a two-run walkoff home run in the eighth inning against San Diego State.

RECORD CHASING

Kimberly Wert, at 45 home runs, is currently three home runs away from breaking the Mizzou career record. Brooke Wilmes sits just four doubles shy of breaking the Tigers’ all-time doubles record.

PITCHING IMPROVEMENT

Tiger pitching holds a 1.94 ERA through 16 games, down from 2.13 through 16 games in 2021. Laurin Krings tossed her first career no-hitter against Bethune-Cookman and then followed it up with a 14-strikeout performance against Texas Tech. Fourteen strikeouts are the most by a Mizzou pitcher since Chelsea Thomas in 2013.

HIGH RANKINGS

Mizzou is currently ranked eighth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. The ranking represents the Tigers’ best since May 14, 2013.

MOONSHOTS

The Tigers launched 11 home runs at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, the second-most by any team at the tournament, trailing only No. 1 Oklahoma.
