CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Mizzou Softball dropped Sunday’s matchup to Seattle U, 3-1 at Big League Dreams Park. The Tigers close the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 3-3 record, and are 12-5 on the season.
TURNING POINT
The Redhawks struck early with a three-run home run from Bailey Thompson in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Mizzou responded with a run in the top of the third inning. Brook Wilmes singled to right field and crossed home plate two batters later on an RBI single up the middle from Cayla Kessinger.
Neither team would tack on another run, as the Tigers stranded the tying run at home plate.
Top Tigers
- Emma Nichols struck out eight batters while issuing no walks on the day. She tied her career-high from Friday’s start.
- Brooke Wilmes scored Mizzou’s lone run, going 1-for-4 at the plate.
Notes
- After allowing Seattle U batters to go 3-for-8 the first time through the order, Emma Nichols held the Redhawks to go 2-for-16 the final two times through the order.
- Nichols has struck out 29 batters to only four walks this season.
- Cayla Kessinger celebrated her birthday with a RBI.
- This weekend wraps up 6,196 miles of travel for Mizzou (not including return trip) through the first three weeks of the season.

Mizzou will play a home game for the first time this season, next weekend at the Mizzou Tournament, Feb. 29 – March 1. The tournament, with two games against Nebraska and Wichita State will kick off eight-straight home games for the Tigers.
