No. 21 Mizzou Softball Heads Back to Florida for “Strike-Out Cancer” Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. – After the Getterman Classic was canceled due to inclement weather in Waco, Texas, the No. 21 Mizzou Tigers (3-1) were able to find a new destination for the weekend in Boca Raton, Florida. Mizzou will take on host Florida Atlantic, Iowa State and SEC rival Ole Miss in the tournament. Due to travel arrangements, Mizzou will not begin play in the tournament until Saturday.

Last weekend, Mizzou was able to win three out of four in the JoAnne Graf Classic, splitting the series with then-No.12 Florida State and defeating Memphis twice. The tournament’s two days were marked by big performances by Tiger players. On the first day, Hatti Moore smashed three home runs in the two games, driving in six runs. On Saturday, Brooke Wilmes stole the show with a 7-for-7 performance at the plate in the two games against Florida State and Memphis. Wilmes smacked two doubles, drove in three runs, and scored five times for the Tigers. The final game of the tournament between Mizzou and Memphis was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions in Tallahassee.

Mizzou will open the weekend on Saturday with former Big 12 foe Iowa State. The Cyclones (5-0) were already on the Tigers’ schedule, as Iowa State is scheduled to travel to Columbia for the Mizzou Tournament in March.

In the second game of the day, Mizzou will take on SEC rival Ole Miss (2-2). This game will not count towards the SEC standings. The Tigers faced Ole Miss in their only SEC series of the 2020 season. Mizzou swept the series, winning all three games by a margin of 18-3. Tiger pitchers only allowed one run in each game of the series.

Sunday, to close out the weekend, Mizzou will play back-to-back games with host Florida Atlantic. The Tigers are 3-0 against the Owls all-time. The teams last met in 2018 with Mizzou taking a 7-2 victory.
