No. 24 Mizzou Sweeps Mississippi State in Series Opener

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mizzou Volleyball (14-7, 14-7 SEC) rode an 18-kill performance from senior Kylie Deberg to sweep Mississippi State (4-13, 4-13 SEC), 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18) in the series opener on Wednesday (March 24).

Deberg hit .400 from the pin, leading a Mizzou attack that finished the day at .295 as a team. Sophomores Anna Dixon and Claudia Dillon added eight kills apiece and senior Dariana Hollingsworth-Santana chipped in seven.

The Tigers stifled Mississippi State’s attack to just .078 hitting, the lowest percentage for an opponent on the season. Mizzou racked up 47 digs as a team in the three-set victory.

Thursday’s match against the Bulldogs has been moved to 11 a.m. due to inclement weather in the Starkville area on Wednesday afternoon.

“Our girls did a nice job of playing better as the match went on. Offensively, Andrea did a great job of spreading out the offense and Emily led the defensive front nicely. Looking forward to another good match tomorrow morning.”

  • Brown’s 12 digs led all players in the match. It marked the 18th time the freshman has reached double digits on the season.
  • Deberg tallied more than 15 kills in a three-set match for the fifth time this season. It’s the 16th time she has produced more that 15 tallies on the year.
  • Fuentes’ 36 assists are her second-most in a three-set match this season behind only her 45-assist performance against Arkansas.
  • Anna D’Cruz racked up four blocks to lead the match.
