The Cardinals gave up five runs in the bottom of the fifth during a 6-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The Cardinals tied the game in the top of the inning with a solo home run by Richie Palacios, but Adam Wainwright surrendered all five runs in the next half-inning. Wainwright was charged with his ninth loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in four-and-two-thirds innings. The Cardinals remain in last place in the NL Central at 55-and-72. Zack Thompson starts against the Pirates today.
