The Royals lost their series opener against the Rays. Kansas City fell to Tampa Bay 5-1 at Kauffman Stadium. Bobby Witt Jr. hit his 13th home run of the season on a solo shot in the sixth inning. Starting pitcher Brady Singer was charged with the loss after allowing one run through five innings. The Royals have lost two of three to sit at 47-and-40. They host the Rays again tonight. Right-hander Michael Wacha will start opposite Tampa Bay righty Ryan Pepiot.
