Royals 16, Mets 12

A wild one in New York. The Royals fell behind early after giving up three runs in the first inning on a Little League home run. Carson Benge tapped a slow roller up the third base line, and Seth Lugo’s throw sailed down the right field line. Two more errant throws followed, allowing Benge to circle the bases and score. Kansas City trailed 9-4 before erupting for five runs in the fifth to tie the game, then pulled away for a 16-12 win. Tyler Tolbert tied a Major League record by reaching 12 straight plate appearances with a hit. He blasted a two-run homer in the second, then added singles in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings before his streak ended with a flyout in the ninth.
