The Royals managed to hold off the Guardians in their 7-6 victory at Kauffman Stadium. Alec Marsh earned the win after allowing four runs, three of them earned, over four and a third innings of relief. Collin Snider secured his first save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth. MJ Melendez went deep with a two-run shot in the first. Kansas City is now last in the AL Central at 50-and-102. Right-hander Zack Greinke will start the series finale against Cleveland this afternoon.

The Royals will close out the remainder of their season without a member of their starting rotation. Kansas City is shutting down Brady Singer because of back pain that the right-hander experienced during his last start. Singer went 8-and-11 with a career-worst 5.52 ERA through 29 starts this season. The 27-year-old’s contract remains under team control through the 2026 season. In another move, the Royals also placed right-hander Brad Keller on the 15-day injured list due to a lingering shoulder issue. Keller was 3-and-4 with a 4.57 ERA through 11 games this season.
