Shildt out as Cardinals manager

Mike Shildt, who led the Cardinals to a franchise-best 17-game win streak and an NL Wild Card berth this past season, is out as Cardinals manager.

“We have a philosophical difference of the direction that our Major League club is going,” president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said in a news conference on Thursday.

In four seasons with St. Louis, Shildt went 252-199, winning the NL Manager of the Year Award in 2019 and guiding the club to three straight playoff appearances.
