St. Louis Blues preview

The St. Louis Blues open the 2026-27 season Friday night on the road against the Dallas Stars, beginning a three-game trip through the Central Division. St. Louis went 37-33-12 last season and missed the playoffs, and the offseason brought significant changes up front, including the additions of Mason McTavish from Anaheim and Connor McMichael from Washington. The Blues also added veteran defenseman Brandon Carlo from Toronto. McTavish, Connor McMichael and captain Robert Thomas will be among the players to watch as St. Louis looks to generate more offense.

The biggest storyline entering the opener may be how quickly the new-look Blues come together, particularly with the season starting against a Dallas team that reached the playoffs last season. Goaltending will also be under the microscope after Joel Hofer posted better numbers than Jordan Binnington last season, while St. Louis dealt another early blow on defense when Logan Mailloux suffered a hand injury that will keep him out at least eight weeks. Mailloux was expected to start alongside Philip Broberg on the top defensive pairing, so the Blues will begin the season with Justin Barron and 20-year-old Adam Jiricek filling the vacancies.
