Tigers Travel to Top-Ranked Tennessee

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball (18-8, 3-6 SEC) visits SEC front runner and No. 1 Tennessee (28-1, 9-0 SEC) for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 8.

Friday’s series opener is set for a 6:30 p.m. ET first pitch at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on SEC Network +. Game two of the series on Saturday will air on SEC Network at 7 p.m. ET. The finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on SEC Network +.

PITCHING PROBABLES

Friday – RHP Spencer Miles (2-2, 5.70 ERA) vs. RHP Chase Burns (6-0, 1.15 ERA)

Saturday – LHP Tony Neubeck (2-1, 4.70 ERA) vs. RHP Chase Dollander (5-0, 2.58 ERA)

Sunday – RHP Austin Marozas (1-0, 4.05 ERA) vs. RHP Drew Beam (6-0, 0.88 ERA)

SERIES BUSINESS

  • Mizzou and Tennessee meet for the 25th time in Friday’s series opener at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Tigers lead the all-time series 14-10 over the Volunteers. All 24 meetings have come during Mizzou’s SEC era.
  • The Vols swept the 2021 series in Columbia. The Tigers had taken the previous five series dating back to 2015.
  • Mizzou is 8-4 all-time at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Mizzou trounced rival Kansas on Wednesday night, 14-6, behind seven early runs in the first and second innings.
  • The Tigers got home runs from Fox Leum and Tre Morris while four Mizzou players posted multi-hit nights in the rout.
  • Nathan Landry picked up his third win of the season after working three scoreless innings to start the game for Mizzou. He struck out four while allowing just one hit.

OUT(FOX)ED

  • Graduate Fox Leum earned SEC Player of the Week honors with a 7-for-11 week, two home runs and nine RBI in his four games played. The Tigers were 4-0 with Leum in the lineup.
  • In the Braggin’ Rights matchup against Illinois last Tuesday, Leum put the Tigers ahead for good with a monstrous two-run home run which left the ballpark.
  • Against South Carolina, Leum went 3-for-4 with three RBI in both the Saturday and Sunday contests. He had the go-ahead two-run single in the fifth of Sunday’s series clincher.
  • Leum made it three-straight games with three RBI in a 2-for-4 night against Kansas. He’s the first Tiger since John McKee in 2006 to record three or more RBI in three-straight games.

PITCHING PROGRESS

  • Mizzou’s weekend rotation had its best series of the season against South Carolina with all three Tigers working a career-high in innings pitched.
  • Spencer Miles took the loss on Friday night, working 7.2 IP with 4 ER. He entered the eighth with just two runs on the ledger but was unable to escape the inning.
  • Freshman Tony Neubeck worked 5.0 IP while allowing just a pair of runs on Saturday. He surrendered just two hits in the outing.
  • Austin Marozas tossed a dominant 6.2 IP with two runs on two hits. He fanned a career-high 10 batters in earning the win.

SCOUTING THE VOLS

  • Tennessee enters the series as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country. The Vols sit at 28-1 on the season and have won 20-straight games.
  • The Vols have done it all this season, leading the country in ERA at 1.74 while ranking second in scoring at 10.3 runs/game.
  • Tennessee hits .324 as a team with Drew Gilbert and Jared Dickey each hitting better than .400. Trey Lipscomb leads the way with 48 RBI and 11 HR.
  • On the mound, the Vols feature a trio of starters who all own an ERA below 2.60.
