Williams Leads Tigers to OT Win, Blackwell Reaches 1,000 Points

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri women’s basketball (13-2, 2-0 SEC) went to overtime for the second-consecutive game and defeated Auburn (8-5, 0-2 SEC) by a score of 72-63. LaDazhia Williams paced the Mizzou offense with a career-high of 25 points.

Mizzou trailed for the majority of the contest until a 12-0 run late in the third quarter gave the home Tigers a lead before the fourth quarter. Auburn then used a 9-0 run of its own to take a five-point lead with 6:37 to go in regulation.

LaDazhia Williams and Lauren Hansen combined for Missouri’s next 10 points to take a three-point lead with just over one minute to go. With Mizzou up by two, Sania Wells was able to knock down a midrange jumper to tie it up and ultimately send it to overtime.

TURNING POINT

Mizzou jumped all over Auburn in the extra period after Lauren Hansen knocked down a three on the first possession. The home Tigers dominated overtime, outscoring the visitors 13-4.

NOTES

Aijha Blackwell recorded her 1,000 career point in the overtime period, becoming the 38th member of the Mizzou women’s basketball 1,000 point club. Additionally, she becomes the 14th Tiger to reach the mark before her senior season.

Blackwell recorded her tenth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds. She is up to 30 in her career.

Blackwell joins Kesha Bonds, Ericka Fields, and Renee Kelly as the only members of the 1,000-point club to average a double-double in a single season.

Blackwell is the 22nd player in program history to reach 1,000 points and grab at least 600 rebounds.

Haley Frank set a new career-high with four blocks. Her four are the most any Mizzou Tiger has had this season.

Mama Dembele has had three or more assists in 10 games this season.

Sara-Rose Smith made her first career start.

LaDazhia Williams recorded a career-high 25 points, marking her fourth-straight game in double-digits.

Mizzou moves to 9-0 at home this season.

The win marks the second time in program history the Tigers have opened SEC play with a 2-0 record since joining the league in 2013. The only other instance was 2018-19.

Thursday marked the first time in program history the Tigers’ won two-games in a row in overtime.

Tonight’s game marked the first win of the season for Mizzou when trailing at half. The Tigers’ were previously 0-2 this season when trailing at half.

70 of the Tigers’ 72 points came from four players – LaDazhia Williams, Lauren Hansen, Aijha Blackwell and Haley Frank. Mizzou had four players in double-digits for the third-straight game.

Auburn’s largest lead was seven, marking the third-game in a row the Tigers have come back from a six point or larger deficit.
