The Willow Springs Bears were on the road Tuesday night to face another set of Bears, with the Ava Bears. The Willow Bears started the scoring and scored most of their points in the first four minutes of the game. Ava battled back and tied the game at 10 during the first quarter. Willow Springs scored right before the quarter ended and led 12-10 after the first.
During the second quarter both teams struggled to see their shots fall. This kept the game in a low scoring affair. Again, as the quarter ended Willow Springs sunk a shot, this time however, it was a 3 point shot from just beyond half court. The Willow Bears led at half 26-20.
The third quarter played out much the same. Willow Springs built a small lead, but the Ava Bears clawed their way back. There was another buzzer beater shot at the end of the quarter, this time, it was by the Ava Bears. A layup was scored as the quarter ended and Ava closed the gap to 35-32 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter Ava was able fight back and tie the game. Each team had a chance at the end of regulation to score to win the game but, the attempts failed. The game went into overtime tied at 44.
The teams traded turnovers and three point shots that fell to start over time. The game came down to free throws and the Ava Bears were able to hold on to win 54-52.
Willow Springs will be back in action on Friday, at home against Mountain Grove.
