The Liberty Eagle Boys Basketball team resumed play this past Tuesday night, February 4th, 2025 as they faced the 11-7 Willow Springs Bears. The Bears who lost to the Eagles the previous two years got a victory in this matchup, 59-54.
1st Quarter: Tip controlled by the Liberty Eagles and ball gets down to Alex Tune who passes to Gavin Reese to score the first bucket of the game. Picked up by the Bears as James Dean scores the first bucket of the night and ties the game 2-2. A long three pointer by Kolby James and picked back up by Alex Tune for the Eagles but lost as Bears now have a 5-2 lead. Eagles try to move with it as Parker Tune looks to shoot but passes down to Gavin Reese. Bears seem to be playing a very, faced-paced offense so far in the first half. Finally, Eagles trail by one as Parker Tune scores on the easy lay-in. Rebound Bears who make some passes and a three pointer by Jace Rodgers. Eagles get it back but turnover by Gavin Reese. On the next foul; Kaden Lee fouls Alex Tune and looks at a better position to score once again. But finally taken back up by Alex Tune for another three for Liberty. Taken back by the Bears and another three. Quarter ends as the Willow Springs Bears lead 14-9.
2nd Quarter: Bears turn it over and a good three by Alex Tune. Ball goes back to the bears and the fourth three pointer of the night for the Willow Springs Bears by Blayne Altermatt. But a foul on the next play for Blayne’s brother, Brady Altermatt. Both teams are getting good, open looks, but the Bears continue to play a slightly greater amount of speed. A reverse layup by Brady James as he gets around Parker Tune. Alex Tune gets another look at another three for the Eagles and fouls, getting a chance to make it at the line. The game is now shifting to a bit of an even-ing out as Tune makes two free throws at the line and suddenly, Eagles are only down by one point. Turnovers for the Eagles are still causing a bit of trouble though as they now have four turnovers. On this particular fourth, Kaden Lee scores on another three pointer for The Bears. Kolby James scores two more points at the line on another foul on the Eagles. Taken back and now foul call and Draydon Wells gets a chance to shoot two but both fall short. Both teams have even amount of turnovers as Liberty has six turnovers while the Bears have five towards the last minute ½.
HALFTIME- Willow Springs Bears: 29/ Liberty Eagles: 27
3rd Quarter: Willow Springs Bears will have the ball to start the Second half. Taken and two pointers by Reese. Bears get it back and fade away plus a bucket by Kolby James as the game continues to hold at two points. Alex Tune gets two possessions and finally gets it in plus, good buckets by both Brayden Mays and Draydon Wells give the Eagles the first lead of the game, 33-31. Kolby James picks up three fouls and now Alex Tune gets a chance to shoot two free throws to capitalize on the Eagle lead. A three by Brady James brings the game back down to four points, but Eagles continue to look to screen but loose it again. Another three by Jace Rodgers ties the game at 37 points. A foul call gives Alex Tune the chance to break out of the tie at the throw line, making both free throws. But taken back and tied up again with another two hander by Kaden Lee. Bears trying for the last shot but remain tied at 39 at the end of the Quarter.
4th Quarter: Teams tie up the game once again at 41 with respective buckets by Kaden Lee for the Bears & Gavin Reese for the Eagles. During the last six minutes, The Bears are able to take huge advantage of fouls as they had already been flirting with the foul issues Liberty has had most of the game. This in addition to several more three pointers by both Jace Rodgers & Kolby James. The Eagles only managed one Three pointer in the Second half.
FINAL SCORE- Willow Springs Bears: 59/ Liberty Eagles: 54
Liberty will continue SCA play on Friday night when they face the Ava Bears with Game time around 7:30 with Broadcast on The Fox 96.9.
