Lincoln School Project Officially Opens

West Plains, MO. – The Lincoln School, a fixture with a long past in the city of West Plains, is expected to start seeing new life and new purpose under the ownership of Crockett and Tonya Oaks.

We spoke to Crockett earlier this year about acquiring the building from the City, but more announcements will likely be coming out soon as the “Lincoln School Project” has officially launched.

The purpose of The Lincoln School Project is simple. The school has been around since before desegregation, and with that age and experience comes a good deal of wear and tear. Crockett and Tonya hope to restore the building, and make it more than it was before. Leaking roofs, cracks in the basement walls, and more have presented themselves as challenges to the goals of the Oaks for the building.

Their idea is to make the school into a historic landmark for West Plains that also serves as a cultural and history learning center for the community. However, when Crockett spoke to us in the studio, he talked about how he wanted this building’s legacy to outlive him and his efforts, and hopes to make the whole project mean something to the citizens of West Plains.

More about the project and both Crockett and Tonya’s efforts can be found by clicking here, or by viewing the attached video on this article.
