This past Friday, MoDOT released a video reminding people not to drive distracted, especially while driving through work zones. This is due to two factors: one is that National Work Zone Awareness Week took place from April 15th through the 19th, and statistically, 2023 has shown some of the highest work zone crash numbers in state history.
In the video, you can see an SUV-type vehicle crashing into the back of a MoDOT work vehicle after traveling across the white line on the edge of the highway. According to MoDOT, 2023 had 35 deadly crashes last year in work zones. This is the highest level of fatal work zone accidents Missouri has seen.
With this, MoDOT is urging drivers to buckle up, and put your phones down, especially while in work zones.
Lastly, remember that it is now illegal by state law to operate your cell phone while you drive in the state of Missouri.
