WEST PLAINS, Mo. — The 2026 Heart of the Ozarks Fair has officially wrapped up, shattering previous attendance numbers and marking what organizers are calling the most successful year in recent history.
In a recap interview with News Team 7’s Jim Lambert, Fair Board President Melody Simpson revealed that Saturday night brought in the highest single-day attendance the fairgrounds has ever recorded.
“Saturday night we had the biggest night we’ve ever had in the existence of any of us being on [the board] and all the numbers we could find,” Simpson said, noting a clear upward trend in attendance over the past few years. Organizers credited the record turnout to a continuous effort to provide a family-friendly, traditional community event.
Aside from some minor wind on opening day, the fair enjoyed cooperative weather throughout the week. The event also featured the return of local Boy Scouts to the grandstands, who were back selling popcorn and soda to hungry event-goers.
Looking Ahead: Skyfire, Monster Trucks, and College Rodeo
While the annual fair is now in the books, Simpson emphasized that the fairgrounds will remain a busy hub for the West Plains community throughout the remainder of 2026. A line-up of major upcoming events was announced:
Skyfire (July 3rd): The popular local fireworks celebration is officially returning to the Heart of the Ozarks Fairgrounds.
Monster Trucks (August): The high-octane fan favorite will return to the grandstands later this summer.
MSU College Rodeo (October): In a massive addition to the local schedule, the Missouri State University College Rodeo will be hosted at the fairgrounds. The event is expected to bring roughly 450 contestants to West Plains, providing a substantial boost to the local economy.
Community members looking to keep up with event schedules and announcements can check the fairgrounds’ brand-new physical bulletin board and sign, or visit the official Heart of the Ozarks Fair Facebook page, which is actively monitored for community messages.
