James “Jim” E. Sigman

James (Jim) Edward Sigman was born into the family of Lawrence & Ethel Sigman November 17, 1931. He gained his heavenly wings on Thursday afternoon September 15, 2022 at   Kabul Nursing Home with the love of his life, Betty by his side. Jim was 90 years young. 

Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized at Cabool Christian Church were he remained a member the rest of his life.

Growing up he played football and ran track for his beloved “ Bulldogs”. His love for sports continued, cheering on his children , grandchildren and children of the community at sporting events. At the age of 87 he participated in the Turkey Trot in Springfield, placing 1st in his division. Jim enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and walking at the new gym walk track. He was always active and loved being outdoors tending his huge garden and manicuring his yard, as well as his hobby of beekeeping. 

On February 8, 1952 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, “The Queen of Love and Beauty”, Betty Preston. Their family grew with the addition of their children Roy, Randy (Joe), Jimmy, Janice (Sis) and Ricky (Bo).

Jim proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1952-1954 stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was a proud member of the AM  VETS Post 164. After returning home from war he returned back to Producers Creamery, seeing the company go through name changes Mid-America Dairy and Dairy Farmers of America. Many times he would get up during the night and go down to the plant to fix a piece of equipment, solve a problem or just to check to see what was happening. He served as Plant Superintendent.  After retirement he consulted for DFA going across the country going to most of their plants across the country. 

Jim was proud of Cabool and served as a councilman for many years, being a voice for the citizens of the community. 

He and Betty enjoyed going to auctions, flea markets and yard sales.  After Jim’s retirement they traveled some, but were always ready to come “home” to Cabool.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence & Ethel, sons Jimmy and Randy (Joe), granddaughter Jamie, grandson Josh, and brother Raymond. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Betty, sons Roy (Patsy) of Cabool, Ricky (Kelly) of Springfield, daughter Janice (Karen) of Ozark, daughter-in-law Kris, of Luther, Oklahoma, and Tia, of Cabool. Grandchildren Chad, Tye, Zebb, Shyloa, Chance, Kamron, Whitney, and Tember.  Sisters Mabel Hoar, Virginia Stogsdill, Anna Mae Hutson , Clara Scheets  and brothers Elmer and Delmar. Several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Jim will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.
