4 Grizzly eSports rosters will compete in NJCAAE playoffs

 

            WEST PLAINS, Mo. –  The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly eSports program will send four rosters to the NJCAAE spring playoffs.

            Two rosters will compete in the Invitational playoffs, and two will compete in the Open.

            In the Invitational, the Warzone squad of Brock DeWeese, West Plains, and Spencer Spreutels, Koshkonong, earned the top seed and a first-round bye. They will compete in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. April 13 against the winners of Hutchinson (Kansas) Community College vs. Pratt (Kansas) Community College.

            Dustin Johnson, Ava, also earned a spot in the Invitational Mario Kart playoffs. He will face last season’s champion from Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. April 14.

            The Grizzlies’ undefeated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) roster earned the No. 2 seed in the Open playoffs and will face the team from Herkimer (New York) College at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 10.

            The Overwatch is seeded seventh in the Open playoffs and will face Laramie County (Wyoming) Community College at 4 p.m. April 15.

 

Week Seven Action

            The Grizzlies finished out the 2023 spring campaign strong, starting with a thrilling win by the undefeated Call of Duty: MW2 roster over Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina. The Redhawks went into the contest undefeated, as well.

            In Round One: Hardpoint, the Grizzlies took an easy 25-154 win over the Redhawks. The Grizzlies also took an early 4-0 lead in Round Two: Search and Destroy, but the Redhawks battled back and won 6-5.

            In Round Three: Control, the Grizzlies bounced back to squeak out a 3-2 win, but the Redhawks took a 250-194 decision in Round Four: Hardpoint. In the Final Round: Search and Destroy, the Grizzlies mustered up their grit and finished the series with a 6-0 win.

            This roster became the first roster in the Grizzlies’ short esports history to remain completely undefeated throughout the regular season.

            In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Summer Gabriel and Zahren Whited, both of West Plains, lost to Madison (Wisconsin) College 0-3, and Julian Proctor, Roach, lost 2-3 to Madison in his closest competition to date.

            In Hearthstone, Jessica Belcher, West Plains, dropped an 0-3 decision to Lackawana College, Scranton, Pennsylvania.

            In Warzone Brock DeWeese, West Plains, and Spencer Spreutels, Koshkonong, won a 2-0 sweep over Tallahassee (Florida) Community College.

            In Mario Kart action, Dustin Johnson, Ava, defeated his opponent State Technical College of Missouri at Linn 4-1, while teammate Abe Khan, West Plains, fell to his State Tech opponent 1-4.

            The Grizzly Overwatch 2 squad finished the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Centralia (Washington) College.
