Intoxicated West Plains man causes two-vehicle crash in Texas County

West Plains, MO. – A child was injured when an intoxicated West Plains man caused a two-vehicle crash in Texas County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred on Highway H, nine miles northeast of Cabool on July 29th at 5:35 p.m.

An eastbound Chevy pickup driven by Dustin Jewell, age 37 of West Plains, crossed the centerline of the roadway and struck an oncoming Ford pickup driven by Alexander Roberts, age 30 of Cabool, causing both vehicles to overturn.

A three-year-old boy in Roberts’ truck suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston for treatment. Both vehicles were totaled in the crash and everyone reported to be involved had been wearing their seatbelts.

Jewell was arrested for driving while intoxicated – first offense, careless and imprudent driving involving a crash, and driving without a driver’s license. He was held in the Texas County Jail and has been released.
