Ava, MO. – An incident on Saturday in Ava has led to a warrant being issued for a maintenance man accused of sexual misconduct.
Jason Wayne Smyth, age 47 of Ava, is charged with 1st-degree burglary, 1st-degree harassment, and 1st-degree sexual misconduct. Smyth has a bond set at $10,000 cash and special conditions.
According to the probable cause statement, on the morning of December 9, 2023, a woman living at the Redbud Apartments in Ava stated that Smyth had changed a light bulb and had returned to find a lost coin. After entering the apartment and searching for a time, the woman stated Smyth sat down on her couch and accused her of flirting with him before exposing his penis and masturbating.
The statement says Smyth initially refused to leave when asked but did eventually leave the premises.
