David Jett

David Terry Jett was born on November 1, 1947 in Willington, Texas to loving parents, Joe and Ruby Jett. He departed this life, peacefully, at his home surrounded by family on October 10, 2024.

On November 18, 1995, David married the love of his life, Gertrude Alice Barton, at their home in Alton, MO. Gertie’s love for Dave was immeasurable. He was blessed to have Gertie by his side through his health struggles and she gave him outstanding care in his final days.

Survivors include: his wife, Gertrude Jett of Alton, MO. 2 sons: David Jett Jr, Randy (Tina) McClanahan of Alton, MO. 1 daughter: Sandy (Scott) Dale of Bardley, MO. 8 grandchildren: Jessica (Steven) Huffman of Bardley, MO, Kylie (James) Shields of Alton, MO, Madison (CeJay) Cook of Alton, MO, Hayley McClanahan of Alton, MO, Mandi Dale of Bardley, MO, Keera and Jake Arnold and Sadie McClanahan of Alton, MO. 6 great-grandchildren: Kennedy Harvey, Lucas Shields, Olivia Cook, Ava Shields, Marlee Huffman and Emmett Borgman. 2 brothers: Lester (Mozella) Jett of Rover, MO, Philip (Juanita) Jett of Alton, MO. 1 sister: Maxine Grinstead of Lebanon, Indiana. Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Joe and Ruby Jett. 4 brothers: Kenneth Jett, Claude Jett, Sammy Jett, and Harvey Jett. 2 sisters: Nancy Venburg and Lanagay Bennett.

David enlisted in the United States Army on March 16, 1965, at the young age of 17. He fought proudly in the Vietnam War, earning a bronze star and receiving a purple heart. David accepted Jesus in his heart at a young age, while attending the Shiloh First Baptist Church in Rover, MO. David was an avid trader by heart. He enjoyed trading animals and loved horses and raising pheasants. His most treasured moments of all was spending time with family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved them all deeply and they loved him back. Though David endeared many health issues throughout his life, he didn’t let it slow him down and he maintained a positive spirit and attitude that serves as an inspiration for all who knew him. In his final days, he still desired his family to be around him and it would noticeably brighten his face. David will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and ultimately a true hero to this country. He will deeply be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will 1-2:00 pm Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, MO with services to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will be in the Redburn Cemetery with full military honors.
