Mary “Kay” Burns was born January 28, 1964, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Kathleen “Kat” Mary (Jonas) and Chester “Murph” Burns. She passed away on November 18, 2024, peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. Kay had attained the age of 60 years 9 months 21 days.
Kay was raised in Winona, Missouri, and attended school there. After graduation, Kay worked various places throughout the area from Star Foods, to Paramount and Nu-Way, and finally ended her work career as a Manager at Casey’s in Winona, Missouri in 2011 when she became disabled.
Kay’s hobbies included playing softball in her younger years, woodworking, crafting, and all things Christmas!
Kay had a strong will and a determination to do whatever she set her mind to. Kay was very gifted and had the ability to take anything and turn it into a beautiful creation! She loved spending time with her family and friends. Kay had a special way of making people feel accepted just as they were and she always treated people with kindness and respect. She had an incredible sense of humor and loved to tease and have fun.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Earleen Burns.
Kay is survived by and leaves to mourn, her lifelong partner and best friend Linda Krist of Mt. View, MO; two brothers, Roger (Glenda) Burns of Winona, MO, and Walter “Bub” (Sharon) Burns of Low Wassee, MO; 5 nieces; Gina Farrill, Deana Burns, April Burns and Maylin Petty all of Winona, MO, and Shea Schnell of Torrington, WY; 2 nephews, Earl Burns of Mountain View, MO, and Ryan Burns of Low Wassee, MO; and many other relatives. Kay also leaves behind a very special cousin Peggy whom she loved like a sister.
Among others left to grieve are many special friends she considered her family. Kay will be deeply missed by family and many friends who will mourn her passing.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. November 29, 2024, at Yarber Mortuary, Winona, Missouri with Bro. Jason Basham officiating. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Winona, Missouri. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com
