SAR and DAR Hosted 250th Anniversary Celebration with Readings, Fireworks, and Community Support

The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) joined together Wednesday evening for a special community ceremony marking the 250th anniversary of America. The event featured two public readings of the Declaration of Independence—one at the Howell County Courthouse at 5 p.m. and another at Zizzer Stadium at 8 p.m.—followed by a fireworks show.

Approximately 50 people attended the courthouse reading, including several SAR members. Attendance grew significantly at Zizzer Stadium, where more than 200 community members gathered for the second reading. Another 200 spectators watched the fireworks display from the surrounding perimeter areas.

The event saw strong representation from local service organizations, including fire, police, sheriff’s deputies, EMTs, military recruiters, the Honor Guard, Boy Scouts, and other essential service providers.

Organizers described the evening as a “great success,” noting the strong turnout and enthusiastic community support.

The celebration was made possible through the contributions of its main sponsors, Freedom Patch Fireworks and Mandy’s Hot Dogs. Freedom Patch provided an impressive fireworks show, while Mandy’s Hot Dogs served food throughout the evening.
